Widening participation across London's medical schools

London is proud of its diversity and commitment to equality of opportunity. As part of this ethos, our five medical schools provide support to people who show academic promise but come from underrepresented groups. Below, you'll find a summary of the targeted support they offer.

Medical school access programmes in London

Imperial College London

Website

Pathways to Medicine is the access programme running at Imperial College London. This programme includes mentoring, a summer school, a work placement and taster events.

Vision is the medical students’ union where they share useful information and upcoming events to attend.

Deadline for Widening Participation Programme: January of year 11.

King’s College London

Website

Programmes running include Medview, K plus, and summer schools.  An extended medical degree programme is also available.

University College London

Target Medicine is the access programme running at UCL, which also provides a mentoring scheme. Alongside, there are taster days, summer schools and a summer challenge. 

Deadline for Widening Participation Programme: Autumn of year 12.

St George’s, University of London

They run a variety of engagement work with local colleges and schools.

Barts and the London, Queen Mary, University of London

Programmes running include ‘Bridge the Gap’ and summer schools.

Medical Schools Council

Information on studying medicine, including a definitive guide to entry requirements for medicine across the country, are available. They also run several summer schools which are part funded by Health Education England.

Social Mobility Foundation (SMF)

The SMF runs an Aspiring Professionals City Programme, which incorporates those looking to study medicine.

Sutton Trust

Sutton Trust runs Pathways to Medicine with Health Education England and Imperial College. They are also run a separate summer school with King’s College London.
