Student numbers, 2009/10


London teaches more students in medicine, dentistry and pharmacy than anywhere else in the UK.

Postgraduates and undergraduates

Across the UK 87,140 undergraduate and postgraduate students were studying medicine, dentistry and pharmacy in 2009/10 and 23,605 (27%) of these students were studying in London.

In London during 2009/10 there were:

  • 15,815 medical students - 28% of UK medical students
  •   5,650 pharmacy students - 24% of UK pharmacy students
  •   2,140 dental students - 26% of UK dental students

Undergraduate students

In 2009/10 there were 61,115 undergraduate students studying medicine, dentistry and pharmacy in the UK. 13,585 of these students (22%) were studying in London.   

In London during 2009/10 there were:

  •   9,220 medical student - 24% of UK medical students
  •   3,135 pharmacy student - 20% of UK pharmacy students
  •   1,230 dental students - 21% of UK dental students
